Getting Started

What is Driftwink?

Driftwink creates personalised bedtime stories for children aged 2 to 9. You choose a theme, mood, and cast (including your child's name and favourite characters), and the app generates a soothing story instantly, narrated in a calm voice, designed to ease your child to sleep. Every story is created and played entirely on your device; no internet connection is needed.

What is the free tier? What do I get without subscribing?

Driftwink gives every new user 3 free stories, with no subscription required and no time limit. Your first 3 stories are saved to your library and can be replayed as many times as you like. After your 3rd story creation, you will be invited to subscribe to create unlimited stories.

Can I use Driftwink for more than one child?

Yes. Go to Settings → Child Profiles and add a new profile for each child. Each profile has its own name and age, which the story engine uses to personalise vocabulary and story length. When creating a new story, choose which child's profile to use. Stories are saved to a shared library; you can filter by character name to find stories for each child.

Does Driftwink work offline?

Yes, completely. Once a story is created and saved, it plays with no internet connection, even on a plane. Story text, audio, and your narrator voice choice are all stored on your device. The app does not check for a network connection before playing a story. The only time Driftwink requires internet access is to process a subscription purchase through the App Store.

Narrator Voices

Which voice reads the stories? Does Driftwink use the microphone?

Stories are read aloud by one of three curated narrator voices that ship with the app: Luna (warm and soft), Wren (bright and clear), and Sol (low and calm). You simply choose the one your child settles into best. Playing a story never uses the microphone.

If you have set up Apple Personal Voice in your device's Settings, you can choose it inside Driftwink too. Personal Voice is an Apple feature you create yourself in Settings → Accessibility → Personal Voice; Driftwink only plays it back and never creates, copies, or uploads it.

Driftwink uses the microphone in one place only: Family Voices, where a family member can record themselves reading a story for your child to play back. That recording is saved on your device, is never uploaded, and is shared only if you choose to send it. Driftwink never clones or copies anyone's voice.

I got a new phone. Will I lose my voice settings?

The three narrator voices are built into the app, so they are always available on any device. Your voice choice is a simple local preference; just pick it again on the new device. If you use Apple Personal Voice, set it up in your device's Settings and select it inside Driftwink. Any Family Voice recordings are stored on your device, so move them across with your device backup, or share them to yourself, before you switch.

Subscriptions and Billing

How do I subscribe, and what is included?

You can subscribe from the Driftwink paywall (which appears when you try to create your 4th story) or from Settings → Subscription.

What a subscription includes:

  • Unlimited story creation
  • Three soothing narrator voices, plus Apple Personal Voice support
  • Full saved library (unlimited stories, playable offline)
  • All ambient soundscapes

Plans:

  • Family Monthly: $9.99/month
  • Family Annual: $69.99/year (best value), with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers
  • Lifetime: $149.99 (one-time purchase)

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed entirely by Apple, not by Driftwink. To cancel:
  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Driftwink and then Cancel Subscription.
Cancelling ends your subscription at the end of the current billing period. You will continue to have subscriber access until that date. We are unable to process cancellations or refunds directly. All billing is handled by Apple.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple ID used to purchase, find the Driftwink charge, and select "Request a Refund." Apple makes all refund decisions; the Developer has no ability to issue App Store refunds directly.

What is the Lifetime plan?

A one-time payment of $149.99 unlocks all features, forever, on one device. There are no recurring charges. It is restorable with your Apple ID. It is particularly popular as a grandparent gift. Stories and your settings remain local to the device unless future sync is added.

Managing your Driftwink subscription

Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel. Driftwink does not have an in-app subscription management portal.

Privacy and Data

Is Driftwink safe for kids? Who reviews the story content?

Yes. All story content, every sentence and every phrase, is written and reviewed by the Developer before it is included in the app. Driftwink does not use a live AI service (such as ChatGPT) to generate stories. Instead, it composes stories on your device by combining a library of pre-approved building blocks. This means the app is structurally incapable of producing inappropriate or unexpected content.

Every story ends in a calm, safe, restful place. Lessons are positive (Brave, Kind, Curious, Calm, etc.). There is no conflict, no scary content, and no unresolved tension.

Is my data private? Does Driftwink collect information about my child?

The Driftwink app collects no personal data. There are no app servers, no accounts, no analytics SDKs, and no advertising SDKs. Everything the app creates, including your child's name, your stories, your preferences, and any Family Voice recordings, is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

This marketing website is separate from the app: if you join the launch waitlist it stores the email address you give us (solely to email you once, on launch day), and the site may use privacy-first, cookieless analytics. Neither involves any in-app tracking. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

I found a bug or something is not working. How do I report it?

We genuinely appreciate bug reports. They directly improve the app. Email [email protected] with the following information:

  1. What happened. Describe the problem in as much detail as you can.
  2. What you expected to happen.
  3. Steps to reproduce. What did you tap or do before the problem occurred?
  4. Device model. For example, "iPhone 15 Pro" (Settings → General → About → Model Name).
  5. iOS version. For example, "iOS 18.4" (Settings → General → About → iOS Version).
  6. Driftwink version. Visible in Settings → About.
  7. Screenshot or screen recording. If you can capture it, please attach it.

Bug reports go directly to the Developer. We do not use any third-party crash-reporting service. Reports are read and triaged personally. We will reply to confirm receipt and, where relevant, let you know when a fix is included in an update.

The app crashed. What should I do?

First, force-quit the app and relaunch it: swipe up from the bottom of your screen, find Driftwink, and swipe it up to close it. Then reopen it.

If the problem persists, email us at [email protected] with your device model, iOS version, Driftwink version, and a description of what you were doing when it crashed.

iOS may also collect a crash report and share it with us through Apple's standard crash-reporting infrastructure (with your permission, as set in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements).
